"Fraud Lawsuits Rock Art World, Show Weak Link" is the title of the February 9, 2001 article in The Wall Street Journal that discusses the lawsuits that have been filed this month and last against art dealer Michel Cohen. Art Auctioneer Sotheby's Holdings, Inc. as well as other art dealers and galleries, have sued the Malibu, California, art dealer for fraud.

Barry Berke and Jay Neveloff are representing one of the well-known art galleries that has had business dealings with Michel Cohen. The lawsuits are casting light on the art world's practice of conducting business on good faith alone, as Cohen was able to gain the confidence of the other parties and then walk away with millions of dollars worth of their art and cash. The Art Crimes Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation is currently looking into this matter.
