Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel LLP announced today that Kenneth H. Eckstein, partner and co-chair of the firm's 40-attorney Corporate Restructuring and Bankruptcy Department, was named to Turnarounds & Workouts' "Outstanding Restructuring Lawyers" list for 2011. Mr. Eckstein was one of only 12 leading restructuring lawyers nationwide named to the list, which appears as a special report in the publication's December issue.

Mr. Eckstein was recognized for his lead role this past year as debtor counsel in multiple complex Chapter 11 cases, including Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers (one of the largest-ever hospital bankruptcies), Molecular Insight Pharmaceuticals (helped biopharmaceutical technology company successfully reorganize in May 2011) and General Maritime Corporation (international shipping company with $1.4 billion in debt that commenced bankruptcy proceedings in November 2011.) He also represents one of the principal settlement holders in the highly publicized Washington Mutual bankruptcy.

Mr. Eckstein's diverse practice cuts across all aspects of the bankruptcy and restructuring world, including both in and out-of-court restructurings of financially distressed businesses on behalf of debtors, creditor committees, major secured and unsecured creditors, bondholders, trustees, examiners, and third parties seeking to acquire the assets or businesses of financially troubled companies. He has played a prominent role in many of the largest and most complex Chapter 11 reorganization cases and out of court workouts over the past 30 years, handling some of the most cutting-edge issues that continue to define bankruptcy law.
