While you may already be aware of the new obligations imposed upon New York employers under the Wage Theft Prevention Act, we offer the attached summary as a reminder of those obligations and critical upcoming deadlines. Among other things, this new law requires that employers provide mandated notices to each employee (regardless of whether they are exempt or non-exempt, or highly compensated or not) some time between January 1 and February 1 of each year beginning in 2012. Because the deadline for compliance is fast approaching, all New York employers should take steps to ensure compliance with these new obligations.

If you have employees in California, please note that California recently implemented a similar (but different) scheme for non-exempt employees.
