On September 24, 2009, White Collar Defense and Litigation partner Eric A. Tirschwell was appointed by the United States Sentencing Commission to the Commission's Practitioners Advisory Group ("PAG"). The newly constituted PAG has 17 voting members nationwide, and just one for each federal circuit. Tirschwell was appointed as the single voting member to represent the Second Circuit. The PAG's purpose is to assist the Sentencing Commission by providing the views of experienced federal criminal practitioners, proposing priorities and amendments to the United States Sentencing Guidelines, and disseminating information to defense attorneys regarding federal sentencing issues. On September 29, 2009, Tirschwell was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Fund for Modern Courts. The Fund is a nonpartisan, nonprofit, New York statewide court reform organization founded in 1955. Led by concerned citizens, prominent lawyers, and business leaders, Modern Courts strives to improve the administration and quality of justice in our courts. It is the only organization in New York State devoted exclusively to improving the judicial system.
