Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel LLP announced today that leading investment fund formation lawyer Kevin P. Scanlan has joined the firm as a partner in the Corporate Department.

Joining the firm from Dechert LLP, Mr. Scanlan advises clients on structuring, forming and investing in international and domestic private investment funds, including hedge funds, private equity funds, real estate funds, venture capital funds and fund-of-funds. He also advises funds in connection with their subsequent investment activities. Mr. Scanlan’s clients include large, well-established funds and managers as well as first-time funds of high-quality emerging managers.

Mr. Scanlan is a member of the Managed Funds Association Outside Counsel Forum and the New York State Bar Association Private Investment Funds Subcommittee, as well as a Faculty Professor of the Regulatory Compliance Association’s CCO University.

In 2014, Mr. Scanlan received an award at The American Lawyer Global Legal Awards in the subcategory Global Pro Bono Deal of the Year, Social Enterprise for his work as lead partner on a transaction involving the establishment of an investment fund and the structuring of an innovative loan made by such fund to the smallholder cacao farming industry in Belize.

Mr. Scanlan was chosen as one of Institutional Investor News’ “Rising Stars of Hedge Funds” in 2009 and has been recognized as a leading practitioner by in-house counsel and peers in the Guide to the World’s Leading Investment Funds Lawyers, The International Who’s Who of Private Funds Lawyers. Mr. Scanlan is also recognized as a leading lawyer in the category of U.S. investment funds by IFLR 1000 and is recommended by The Legal 500 (US) in the area of alternative/hedge funds.

Mr. Scanlan received his LL.M. Taxation from New York University School of Law and his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law. He earned his B.A., cum laude, from Fordham University.
