Kramer Levin was honored for its longtime service to the New York nonprofit community with Cause Effective's 2012 Legacy of Service Award, presented at the organization’s 30th Anniversary celebration November 29, 2012. Managing Partner Paul S. Pearlman accepted the award for the firm.

Cause Effective was co-founded in 1981 by Kramer Levin partner and former Pro Bono Chair Jeffrey S. Trachtman, who served as its Board Chair until 1994 and stepped down in 2009 after 28 years as a member of the board. Former Kramer Levin attorney Jane Abernethy also served as director and Board Chairman of Cause Effective some years ago. The organization trains other nonprofits in resource development techniques, teaching them how to mobilize all constituencies to bring in crucial financial and volunteer support.

The firm was honored for its long time pro bono and financial support for Cause Effective and its commitment to supporting a wide range of nonprofit organizations that help diverse and under-served communities in New York. Also honored at the event were longtime Cause Effective board member Claire Scanlon, vice president and manager of BNY Mellon’s flagship diversity supplier program, and the New York Community Trust. In accepting the award, Mr. Pearlman celebrated more than a quarter century of supporting Cause Effective’s work and our shared commitment to both community service and diversity.
