Legal Outreach, Inc., a Harlem-based non-profit educational organization, honored Kramer Levin and litigation associate Jeremy Cohen as part of its 20th Anniversary Gala at Columbia University on May 26.

Mindful of the African proverb that it takes a village to raise a child, Legal Outreach recognized Kramer Levin as one of its "Institutions of the Village" for its ongoing support of Legal Outreach programs. Kramer Levin was presented with a plaque that reads:

The Institution of the Village Award is presented to those organizations that have extended themselves beyond their primary mission to unselfishly serve and open doors for urban youth participating in Legal Outreach's Law-Related Education and/or College Bound programs.

Over the years, numerous Kramer Levin associates have worked as mentors, debate coaches, and judges for Legal Outreach programs. For several years, the Firm has also endowed four annual scholarships for Legal Outreach graduates, who have matriculated to such schools as Columbia, Cornell, Georgetown, Swarthmore, Brandeis, and Middlebury.

Legal Outreach also recognized Jeremy Cohen with its highest honor, designation as one of six new "Elders of the Legal Outreach Village." Jeremy has spent more than seven years serving Legal Outreach in various capacities, from participating in its mock trial and debate programs to creating and funding an annual scholarship for graduating seniors. Others honored along with Jeremy as Elders of the Village this year included New York Court of Appeals Chief Judge Judith Kaye and Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau.
