Business Immigration associate Willie Johnson obtained a grant of asylum for a Tibetan refugee who was imprisoned and beaten by the Chinese government based on her and her family members’ religious beliefs and pro-independence political activities. Following her release from prison, she fled to Nepal and then to the United States. The case was complicated by the challenge of proving the identity of the client who arrived in the United States without any documentation. Mr. Johnson filed the client’s asylum application back in January 2008. The matter was referred to Kramer Levin by Song Tsen.
