Katrina L. Baker, Jill N. Filipovic, and Matthew C. Temkin recently obtained a grant of asylum for a Peruvian transgender woman, who fled Peru following a lifetime of persecution, and had been living in New York City. Within the past year, the applicant had begun transitioning, and was also diagnosed with HIV. Kramer Levin successfully argued that these events sufficiently changed the applicant's circumstances, such that the one-year filing deadline for asylum applications should not bar her petition. Aaron Frankel supervised the case and Matthew B. Moses assisted.
