Kramer Levin recently obtained a grant of asylum for an Ecuadorian woman who was persecuted and severely abused by her husband on account of her social group and political opinion that women are entitled to reproductive freedom. As a married women in Ecuador, she was unable to leave her husband. The case took a dramatic twist when the client informed counsel that her husband had followed her to the United States and was threatening and abusing her here. We helped the client persuade the police to arrest her husband and assisted the District Attorney's Office in successfully prosecuting him for an offense that resulted in his incarceration and ultimate deportation The client was referred by Sanctuary for Families (SFF) and supervised by Archana Pyati of SFF, former Kramer Levin attorney Michael Sternhell, and Aaron Frankel.
