The Am Law Pro Bono Report profiled Kramer Levin's pro bono work for P.S. 11, a Manhattan elementary school. Aimed at helping protect the civil rights of the poor, and in conjunction with Volunteers of Legal Service, Kramer Levin offers legal services to the parents of needy children at the school. Since the fall of 2008, Kramer Levin attorneys have run bi-monthly legal aid clinics, and have worked on several dozen matters. Cases have ranged from forcing a landlord to improve the squalid living conditions of a second-grader's primary caregiver, to helping an about to be evicted family stay in their apartment. Litigation associate Jessica Glass was quoted as saying that not every case has required formal legal representation; sometimes parents only require legal advice. Glass also said that only cases that directly affect the welfare of a child at the school are taken, but that the clinics are definitely meeting a need for low-income families. Litigation partner Jeffrey S. Trachtman was quoted as saying that he would like to see the program expand to include fundraising for P.S. 11, and Kramer Levin attorneys mentoring students through Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
