Litigation partner Jeffrey S. Trachtman has been appointed to the board of directors of Legal Services NYC, the largest organization in the country solely devoted to providing free legal services to the poor. Legal Services NYC has a $42 million budget, a staff of 360, and offices throughout New York City, and is the umbrella organization for several constituent agencies including South Brooklyn Legal Services. Mr. Trachtman has been active with Legal Services NYC as a member of the host committee for its Jazz for Justice fundraising dinner, and during his long tenure as Chair of Kramer Levin’s Pro Bono Committee oversaw creation and staffing of the firm’s full-time Attorney Service Program, through which firm attorneys have since 1998 staffed a fulltime position at South Brooklyn representing low-income tenants in housing court. Legal Services NYC has several times recognized the firm with its Pro Bono Visionary Award based on the hundreds of low-income clients served through the externship program. Mr. Trachtman is also a member of the board of Volunteers of Legal Service (VOLS), which works to promote pro bono involvement by law firm attorneys, including through cooperation with Legal Services offices.
