Litigation partner Jeffrey S. Trachtman was quoted in a New York Law Journal article about the impact in New York of the repeal of a Massachusetts law barring out of state same-sex couples from marrying there. Although New York couples may now marry in Massachusetts and have their marriages respected in New York, Trachtman was quoted as saying that he believes many lesbian and gay New York couples will wait until they are able to marry in their home state. He also said that every step taken toward marriage equality helps create momentum, to the point of making it a non-issue for most people. Trachtman and litigation partner Norman Simon were co-counsel with Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund in Hernandez v. Robles, the New York Court of Appeals case seeking marriage equality within New York, and in several cases establishing that valid out-of-state marriages of same-sex couples must be respected in New York.
