Pro Bono Report: Arts & Culture

Alliance for Young Artists and Writers.  The Alliance coordinates with regional organizations to sponsor awards programs for high school students who have special proficiencies in the visual or literary arts.  Maria Jones and Matthew Haies negotiated and drafted sponsorship agreements and renewals, and Matthew drafted and negotiated a web link agreement.

American Friends of the Israel Museum.  The American Friends of the Israel Museum supports the Israel Museum, the national museum of Israel located in Jerusalem, by raising endowment and operating funds and securing donations and loans of major works of art to the Museum.  Sandy Lindenbaum serves as General Counsel and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Museum.  He handles all its corporate and tax matters, employment agreements, and donations and legacies.

American Friends of Maestro.  American Friends of Maestro, Inc. awards grants to organizations that promote the advancement of musical and other cultural and artistic values of Israeli society.  Jonathan WagnerBarry Herzog, and Sidney Friedman represented the organization in connection with its nonprofit incorporation, application for tax exempt status, and registration with various states. 

The Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation.   Howard RothmanDebora GrobmanEric Tirschwell, Stephen Katz, and Jennifer Despins provided advice on a variety of matters to the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation, a nonprofit foundation based in Munich, Germany, that provides scholarships to young, talented string players all over the world.  Among other forms of assistance, the foundation helps these players by arranging auditions and paying for related travel expenses and by lending instruments and paying for related insurance costs.  

New York Foundation for the Arts .  The New York Foundation for the Arts supports individual artists, advances their efforts to develop and create artworks, and provides the public with opportunities to experience and understand their work by offering financial and informational assistance to artists and organizations that directly serve artists.  Mary Aversano successfully represented the Foundation in a “cease and desist” matter against a website that was infringing the Foundation’s copyright.

White Ironstone China Association.  Maria Jones and Anwen Jiang analyzed certain sales tax issues for the board of the White Ironstone China Association, an antiques collectors association, in connection with the Association’s 2004 annual convention.  Helayne Stoopack and Michael Seaton prepared the Association’s application to the IRS for recognition of its tax exempt status.  Mary Aversano and Jessica Turko filed a copyright registration for the Association’s publication on White Ironstone pitchers.
