Pro Bono Report: Government & Public Policy

Association for a Better New York.  Sandy Lindenbaum and Abraham Safdie provide ongoing corporate assistance to the Association for a Better New York, a leading civic organization, including during 2004 the amendment of ABNY’s and a sister corporation’s organizational documents.  Erica Klein and Jessica Turko provide legal advice in connection with various trademark matters.

The Endeavor Group.  The Endeavor Group is a nonprofit organization with the goal of identifying, training, and supporting emerging entrepreneurs in developing nations. These entrepreneurs serve as role models and engines of growth and hope. Endeavor has offices on three continents, and the entrepreneurs it has assisted have generated more than 15,000 jobs. Ira Teicher, working with Jay Neveloff and Neil Tucker , represented Endeavor in connection with its lease for new office space in New York City.

Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater New York.  Ezra Levin served as President of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater New York (JCRC), an umbrella group comprised of over sixty member organizations.  Wide ranging in its work, the JCRC serves as a central voice of the New York Jewish community and a bridge to the multiple ethnic communities in the metropolitan area.  Among other activities, Ezra was involved in the coordination of several amicus briefs in which the JCRC was represented; met with ambassadors to the United Nations Security Council in respect of pending resolutions; and met numerous times with Mayor Bloomberg and Senators Schumer and Clinton, whom he had previously accompanied on their fact finding missions to Israel.  Robert Holtzman counseled the JCRC on various employment policies and issues, and Ken Kopelman, then-summer associate Jonathan Dixon, and Ezra Levin submitted suggestions to and met with officials of the Charities Bureau of the Office of the New York State Attorney General regarding matters of corporate governance and disclosure involving nonprofit enterprises.

Middle East Forum.  The Middle East Forum is a think tank that works to define and promote American interests in the Middle East.  The Forum holds that the United States has vital interests in the region; in particular, it believes in strong ties with Israel, Turkey, and other democracies as they emerge; works for human rights throughout the region; seeks a stable supply and a low price of oil; and promotes the peaceful settlement of regional and international disputes.  Scott S. Dinkes, and Avram Cahn advised the Forum on general corporate matters.  Gordon StoneHoward Neuthaler, and Abigail Mulligan advised the organization on various trust matters, and Izabel McDonald and Richard Moss advised on matters relating to its employee handbook. 

NYC 2012.  NYC 2012 was formed to plan and coordinate New York City’s bid for the 2012 Olympic Games.  Sandy Lindenbaum and James Power advised the organization on zoning, planning, and facilities issues.
