Mr. Friedman’s practice focuses on the litigation and defense of complex civil and criminal cases.
Mr. Friedman has handled a wide range of white collar criminal, securities, corporate control, RICO, trademark and other commercial matters. He has broad experience in the defense of complex criminal cases, including securities fraud, tax, and corruption cases and in representing individuals and entities in enforcement proceedings before the SEC, FINRA, CFTC, Federal Reserve Board, NYAG and other administrative agencies or self-regulatory organizations.
Mr. Friedman’s recent matters include the representation of United Rentals, Inc. in both federal district court and the Second Circuit in shareholder actions brought following the termination of a merger agreement; RiskMetrics Group, Inc., Vishay Intertechnology, Inc., Alloy, Inc., IDT Corporation and Daiwa Securities America Inc. in class action securities litigation; various issuers and officers and directors in investigations relating to historical stock option grant practices; senior officers and directors in securities fraud, derivative and/or ERISA litigation commenced in the wake of alleged accounting or other irregularities involving, among others, Galleon Group, Enron, WorldCom, Tyco, ACS, Cendant, and Bristol-Myers Squibb; investor groups in proxy contests; MAXXAM Group Inc. in litigation concerning its acquisition of The Pacific Lumber Company; a noted newsletter editor in SEC administrative proceedings; a prominent Saudi Arabian banker in state criminal charges, regulatory proceedings before the Federal Reserve Board, and civil RICO charges concerning the demise of BCCI; public contractors in federal and state corruption investigations and civil litigation; statutory insiders and substantial investors in short-swing profit cases; and a major U.S. company in international arbitration proceedings relating to a foreign acquisition.
