On Aug. 11, 2022, the New York Immigration Court granted Kramer Levin’s motion to dismiss removal proceedings against its client, Mr. C-U.  Before filing the motion, the Kramer Levin team engaged with prosecutors at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), requesting that they exercise prosecutorial discretion and join Kramer Levin’s motion to dismiss the case against Mr. C-U.  Upon review of Kramer Levin’s submission, ICE prosecutors agreed to drop their case against Mr. C-U and support the motion to dismiss.

In March 2020, Kramer Levin obtained Special Immigrant Juvenile Status for Mr. C-U, who was then a minor who had recently fled his native Guatemala after facing years of neglect and abandonment by his parents. Mr. C-U—no longer facing the threat of removal—is now on the road to obtaining permanent residency in the United States, where he has lived with close relatives since escaping Guatemala in 2016.
