• James L. Haugen prepares and prosecutes U.S. and international patent applications in the electrical and computer arts. James’ prosecution work involves a wide range of computer and software technologies employed by electronic systems including alerting and warning systems, enhanced and synthetic vision systems, head-up and head-down flight display systems, flight management systems, wireless and data link systems, GPS and other navigation systems, remotely operated vehicles, radar systems, integrated aircraft systems and applications, integrated flight information systems, encrypted storage systems, aircraft information security systems, and network communications technology.

    Prior to entering the legal profession, James was a professional in the aviation field. As a commissioned officer in the U.S. Marine Corps, he was an aircraft maintenance officer who served in a Marine squadron deployed to the Mediterranean Sea on board the aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy. Employed by Pan American World Airways and Delta Air Lines subsequent to Delta’s acquisition of Pan Am’s trans-Atlantic routes, James served as an aircraft line maintenance professional at JFK International Airport in New York City and as an avionics engineer at Hartfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, where he authored instructions to install or modify avionics systems on B777, B767, B757, B737, B727, MD11, MD88, MD90 and L1011 aircraft, and was instrumental in establishing Delta’s aircraft loadable software configuration management program.
