Kramer Levin client David Pinkerton, a former managing director of American International Group, has been cleared of all U.S. bribery charges against him. Pinkerton was accused of conspiring with Czech expatriate Viktor Kozeny to bribe Azerbaijan leaders in a 1998 oil deal, a violation of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. The U.S. Justice Department requested the dismissal of bribery and other charges against Pinkerton, which was granted by a New York federal judge on July 1, 2008. This follows the trial judge's 2007 dismissal of all but four criminal charges against Pinkerton. The case is still proceeding against a co-defendant, Frederic Bourke and Kozeny.
