On March 18, 2009, Kramer Levin was selected as counsel to the official committee of unsecured creditors of Magna Entertainment Corporation and certain of its affiliates (collectively, “MEC"). MEC previously filed voluntary petitions for relief in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware and its bankruptcy cases have been assigned to the Honorable Mary F. Walrath. MEC is the leading owner and operator of horse racetracks in North America, and is also a leading supplier, via simulcasting, of live racing content to the inter-track, off-track betting and account-wagering markets. For the year ended December 31, 2008, MEC reported approximately $1.049 billion in total assets and $959 million in total liabilities on a consolidated basis. The Kramer Levin team was led by Kenneth H. Eckstein, P. Bradley O’Neill and Joshua Brody, with help from Joseph A. Shifer, Lauren M. Macksoud and Jeffrey A. Barlekamp.
