Thomas T. Janover

Mr. Janover has primary responsibility for the firm’s distressed investing practice group.

This practice group of 11 attorneys is widely regarded as being among the finest specialists in representing investment banks, commercial banks and hedge funds engaged in the purchase and sale of securities and claims of companies undergoing financial restructuring or in bankruptcy.

At Kramer Levin, Mr. Janover works closely with Thomas Moers Mayer, a leading practitioner and author on the laws governing trading claims and taking control of corporations in chapter 11. Mr. Janover and his colleagues in the Corporate Restructuring and Bankruptcy Department have advised buyers and sellers of billions of dollars in claims against troubled companies. He has also spoken and written about legal issues involved in the trading of claims and distressed securities and on settling transactions on LSTA and LMA documentation.

During 2007, the group advised over 70 firms in more than 2,000 transactions of bank debt of and claims against troubled companies, both domestic and international. These companies include Enron, Le-Nature’s, Northwest Airlines, Delta Airlines, Collins & Aikman, Refco, Delphi, US Power, Movie Gallery and Solutia, among many others.

Mr. Janover also represents clients in a variety of other corporate matters including litigation finance, negotiation of ISDA derivative contracts for CDS and LCDS transactions and accounts receivables stand-by agreements. Additionally, he represents clients in private equity investments and corporate restructurings.
