• Khushbu Shah, Ph.D., concentrates on intellectual property matters involving biotechnological, pharmaceutical, chemical and medical device inventions. She has advised and worked closely with clients and inventors to evaluate their inventions, to devise strategies for drafting U.S. and foreign patent applications, and to guide examination strategy before patent offices worldwide.

Khushbu also assists with competitive landscape and due diligence analyses where she has been actively involved in conducting prior art searches and preparation of noninfringement, invalidity, patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses.

Her experience also extends to patent litigation under the Hatch-Waxman Act, involving blockbuster drugs as well as post-grant proceedings, including post-grant reviews, reexaminations and oppositions.

Khushbu holds a Ph.D. in medicinal chemistry with practical and technical knowledge in the biotechnological arts. Through more than a decade of interdisciplinary research, she has experience in molecular and cancer biology, immunology, biopharmaceutical manufacturing, biochemistry, drug design, chemical synthesis, in silico computational modeling, drug formulation and pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Khushbu's graduate research focused on the design and synthesis of more than 140 novel compounds for targeting colchicine site on tubulin to obtain potent antitumor agents; targeting dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) enzyme in Pneumocystis jirovecii (pj) to afford safe anti-infective agents; and targeting selective folic acid transporters to obtain safe and potent anti-cancer agents. Her training included several technical areas, such as inflammatory diseases, cancer, infectious diseases, catalysis, inorganic chemistry and organic chemistry. Her synthetic research has produced several drug candidates for studies in the treatment of multiple diseases, one of which (a purine synthesis inhibitor) is currently a preclinical candidate for treatment of pancreatic cancer.
