Legal industry news publisher Bloomberg BNA named Kramer Levin Tax department Chair Howard J. Rothman as this year’s recipient of the Silverstein Award for his long standing contributions to the field of tax. The award is named in honor of Leonard L. Silverstein, a leader in the field of federal taxation for more than 50 years and the founder of the Tax Management Portfolios. Mr. Rothman is co-author of two well-known tax-related treatises for Bloomberg BNA, “Transfers to Controlled Corporations” and “Capital Assets.”

“I am deeply honored to receive the Leonard L. Silverstein Award for Distinguished Service in Tax,” said Mr. Rothman. “It is humbling to be acknowledged by an institution such as Bloomberg BNA, a resource that we respect and rely upon as our Tax department continues to track the latest legal developments. Also, as a BNA contributing author for more than 30 years, I have been fortunate to count Leonard as a role model and a friend for all these years. It is deeply gratifying to me to accept this honor in his name.”

Mr. Rothman advises and represents incorporated and unincorporated business entities in a comprehensive range of planning, including the international, federal, and state and local tax aspects of structuring mergers and acquisitions and other complex corporate and real estate transactions. Mr. Rothman also provides personal planning for high-net-worth individuals, including gift and estate tax planning and advice to not-for-profit corporations.

Known in the legal industry for his ability to use his in-depth knowledge of tax issues and an acute understanding of clients’ business needs and industries to develop creative and practical solutions, Mr. Rothman counsels domestic and foreign clients across a broad spectrum of industries and carries deep expertise in real estate, entertainment, apparel and fashion.

In addition to his position as chair of the firm’s Tax department, Mr. Rothman also serves on Kramer Levin’s Executive Committee.

The award was presented at Bloomberg BNA’s reception on Thursday, May 11, at The Hay-Adams Hotel in Washington, DC.
