Gary Naftalis Honors Judge Marvin Frankel at New York City Bar Association’s Frankel at 50

Firm Co-Chairman and Litigation partner Gary P. Naftalis spoke at an April 24, 2023, New York City Bar Association event, Frankel at 50, honoring the 50^th anniversary of the late Judge Marvin Frankel’s landmark book, Criminal Sentences: Law without Order. Judge Frankel was a federal judge in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York from 1965 to 1978, argued 21 cases before the Supreme Court of the United States over a 50-year career, and was a name partner at Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel from 1983 to 2002. In his speech, which was published In the April – June 2023 issue of the Federal Sentencing Reporter, Gary recounted his 40-year relationship with Judge Frankel, beginning when Gary was a first-year law student and Judge Frankel was his professor at Columbia Law School and later when they co-authored a book on the Grand Jury system. Gary described Judge Frankel as “a mentor and friend . . . [who] dazzled us with his wit and his keen, incisive mind . . . [and whose] life truly made a difference.”
