Kramer Levin Corporate associates David Zlotchew and Chatchada Chiamprasert were among three dozen New York City lawyers who volunteered on election Tuesday to monitor 50 polling sites in heavily Asian American neighborhoods. Volunteers served to help ensure accordance to the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and to discover where the law has been compromised.

In addition to poll monitoring, Zlotchew, Chiamprasert and their counterparts, surveyed individuals to produce a voter census of Asian Americans and to quantify native language use, party affiliation, English proficiency, discrimination complaints, bias experience since September 11, among other matters. Volunteers also reviewed the use of oral interpreters and interpreted written materials, in accordance with §203 of the Voting Rights Act. The New York Lawyer reported on this.
