Kramer Levin obtained a discharge of $10,000 in federal student loans for a low-income Army veteran. Litigation partner John P. "Sean" Coffey, Corporate associate Jeffrey H. Taub and Environmental associate Theodore E. Lamm prepared a loan discharge application for a client who had unknowingly applied for federal student loans to attend a sham trade school that did not offer the business classes that had been advertised and did not administer required entry examinations. The discharge both relieved our client of his payment obligations and allowed him to proceed with other legal matters that had been impeded by the default status of his loans. The Kramer Levin team worked with Legal Services NYC through its Veterans Student Debt Initiative.
