Kramer Levin congratulates the winners of its 2nd Annual Marvin Frankel Award for Outstanding Pro Bono Contributions:

The Clemency Project team for completing over 16 clemency petitions for federal inmates who are serving unjust and disproportionately long sentences, particularly for drug crimes, that the government no longer endorses;

The Touro Synagogue team for representing Congregation Jeshuat Israel of Touro Synagogue pro bono in a litigation against another synagogue, Congregation Shearith Israel of New York, concerning the ownership of the Touro Synagogue itself and of a pair of colonial silver ornaments crafted by a protégé of Paul Revere, worth upwards of $7 million; and

The Marriage Equality team for a decade of work on marriage equality and by playing a key role in the ultimate U.S. Supreme Court victory in June 2015.

The firm will donate $1,177 on behalf of the Clemency Project team to Families Against Mandatory Minimums; $1,177 on behalf of the Touro Synagogue team to Rhode Island Legal Services; and $1,177 on behalf of the Marriage Equality team to Lambda Legal.

The firm would also like to thank those who rose to meet the firm’s Pro Bono Challenge milestones for 100+, 50+ and 20+ hours of pro bono.
