Kramer Levin congratulates the winners of its 6th Annual Marvin Frankel Award for Outstanding Pro Bono Contributions:

Individual Attorney Award: Litigation associate Elise Funke for her overall commitment to pro bono, including zealous representation of two clients for whom she secured parole for unjust sentences.

Team Award: The Her Justice Team, which includes Litigation associates Jessica Weigel and Erin V. Klewin; Litigation partner Alan R. Friedman; Litigation paralegal Pamela Badolato; and former associate Ross Peyser for their dedication to representing a victim of domestic violence in contested child support, custody/visitation, and family offense proceedings.

Individual Staff Award: For the first time, an individual staff member was recognized for extraordinary efforts in helping the pro bono program. Legal assistant Ines Dominguez has served as an interpreter on more than a dozen pro bono matters and has volunteered her time in many of the firm’s on-site clinics.

The firm also recognized those who rose to meet the Pro Bono Challenge milestones for 100+, 50+ and 20+ hours of pro bono and community service, as well as staff who dedicated their time to assist with pro bono matters.

The 2020 Selection Committee was composed of Corporate partner and Pro Bono Co-Chair, Christopher S. Auguste; Intellectual Property partner and Pro Bono Co-Chair, Aaron Frankel; Bankruptcy and Restructuring partner Robert T. Schmidt; Land Use partner Gary R. Tarnoff; Litigation partner Jeffrey S. Trachtman; Litigation special counsel Samantha V. Ettari; Director of Professional Development, Anna Thea Bridge; and Associate Director of Professional Development, Jamie A. Porco.

Judge Marvin Frankel led by example in devoting a considerable amount of his time to pro bono legal causes he found important — most prominently as a founder and longtime chairman of the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights (now Human Rights First). Judge Frankel promoted this kind of public service at Kramer Levin. To honor his memory and encourage the continuation of this important legacy, Kramer Levin created the Annual Marvin Frankel Award for Outstanding Pro Bono Contributions.
