Michael McKay has joined Kramer Levin’s Leveraged Finance practice in New York. Nationally recognized for his work representing a variety of clients in complex debt financings, Mr. McKay previously worked for 17 years at Vinson & Elkins LLP, where he did extensive work in the energy sector.

“Michael is a strong addition for the firm and an important part of our ongoing effort to expand our leveraged finance group,” said Richard Farley, the chair of Kramer Levin’s Leveraged Finance practice. “Michael’s tremendous experience handling complex transactions and unparalleled understanding of the energy industry landscape will further strengthen the leveraged finance offerings we provide to all our clients.”

Mr. McKay represents clients in connection with secured and unsecured domestic and international leveraged financings and project financings of domestic and foreign infrastructure facilities. His many high profile clients have included banks, institutional lenders, alternative lenders, borrowers, master limited partnerships, private equity sponsors and portfolio companies, project sponsors and project companies, and individuals in complex debt financings and related corporate transactions.

Before serving as a partner at Vinson & Elkins LLP, Mr. McKay spent 13 years at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP in its Banking and Institutional Investing group.

Mr. McKay was named to the Best Lawyers in America list for Corporate Law from 2005 – 2015 and 2017 – 2018. He is a member of the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section and the Connecticut Bar Association’s Commercial Finance and Business Law Sections. He previously served as a member of the New York City Bar Association’s committees on Energy, Corporate Law, Project Finance, and Uniform Laws. He received his J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center and his B.A. from Princeton University.
