Mr. S is a legal permanent resident from Egypt who has been in the United States for over 33 years. He applied for naturalization, but his application was held up for undisclosed reasons for more than three years. Kramer Levin drafted a mandamus petition to compel United States Citizenship and Immigration Services to naturalize Mr. S and negotiated with the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York to advance the client’s application without litigation. On Aug. 1, 2019, prior to filing the petition, Mr. S was naturalized. The matter was handled by Litigation associate Patrick J. Campbell, who was supervised by Litigation partner Alan R. Friedman.
