Kramer Levin Secures Zoning Variance for the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater
Kramer Levin has secured a zoning variance from the New York City Board of Standards and Appeals for the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater to enlarge its headquarters located at the northwest corner of Ninth Avenue and West 55th Street. The enlargement will include four new dance studios, two new classrooms and new office space. It will allow the Ailey organization to address recent and projected growth in The Ailey School, which includes both professional and non-professional/junior divisions, and The Ailey Extension, which offers classes to the general public. The variance, which was approved in a very short timeframe, includes zoning waivers from the Special Clinton District regulations relating to maximum permitted floor area, building height and lot coverage.
The Kramer Levin was led by Land Use partner Elise Wagner and planning and development specialists Jeff Mulligan and Marcie Kesner.
