Kramer Levin is pleased to announce that Mat Rosswood has joined the firm as chief operating officer. His responsibilities include directing firm operations, overseeing senior staff and working closely with firm management on strategy implementation.

A dynamic leader with more than 20 years of experience in both global legal and accounting partnerships, Mr. Rosswood has a proven track record in finance and operations, as well as developing and leading strategic initiatives.  He fills an opening created by the firm’s long-planned leadership transition.

Kramer Levin announced in May that the firm has elected Paul H. Schoeman and Howard T. Spilko co-managing partners, effective January 1, 2020. Paul S. Pearlman, who has led the firm as managing partner since August 2000, will retire at the end of this year as part of a long-planned succession strategy. Executive Director Nicholas Tortorella, who joined the firm in 2001, will also be retiring at the end of the year.

“We couldn’t be more excited about Mat joining us,” said Kramer Levin’s Co-Managing Partner-Elect Paul H. Schoeman. “He is a seasoned strategic leader with extensive law firm experience, and the firm will benefit from his creative approach and deep understanding of our business.”

Co-Managing Partner-Elect Howard T. Spilko added, “Paul and Nick have done an exceptional job guiding Kramer Levin and setting the firm on a course for continued success. We’re confident that Mat will complement the strengths of the team and ensure a seamless transition.”

Mr. Rosswood said, “Kramer Levin is an elite firm with a pragmatic approach to business.  I look forward to working with Paul, Howard and the entire team at this time of transition.  We are well positioned to capitalize on future opportunities and to sustain our dedication to client and community service, which is at the core of Kramer Levin’s culture.”

Mr. Rosswood began his career in public accounting at PricewaterhouseCoopers in London and later San Francisco. He joined BDO USA LLP in 2004, where he went on to become a transaction advisory partner servicing an extensive portfolio. Mr. Rosswood later transitioned to the legal industry, serving as chief financial officer at Littler Mendelson during a period of substantial growth and expansion to international markets. Most recently, he was the chief financial officer of Milbank LLP.  He graduated from the University of Bath, England.
