Litigation Partner Michael Oberman, who heads up the ADR practice group, has been inducted as a Fellow of the College of Commercial Arbitrators (CCA). Formed in 2001, the mission of the CCA is to promote professionalism and high ethical standards in commercial arbitration, to develop “best practices” for commercial arbitrators, to provide peer training and professional development, and to identify those arbitrators whose professional training and experience qualify them to undertake the most complex and difficult arbitration assignments. The CCA has some 225 Fellows nationwide, chosen through a selection process requiring substantial experience as a commercial arbitrator, high ethical standards, and high regard in the field among academics, other neutrals and counsel. Last year, the CCA convened a National Summit on Business to Business Arbitration, bringing together neutrals, in-house counsel from numerous major companies that utilize arbitration, skilled counsel who represent parties in commercial arbitrations and the principal organizations involved in commercial arbitration (such as the American Arbitration Association and JAMS) to help formulate protocols for making commercial arbitration more efficient and less costly; this Spring, the CCA published The College of Commercial Arbitrators Protocols for Expeditious, Cost-Effective Commercial Arbitration. Oberman was a participant at the Summit and is an acknowledged contributor to the final Protocols.
