In an article appearing in the Wall Street Journal, litigation partner Jeffrey Trachtman commented on the California Supreme Court's lift on the state's ban on same-sex marriage. The Court ruled that it was unconstitutional to deny same-sex couples the right to marry. Trachtman was quoted as saying that this is an important victory for same-sex couples. He also said that being allowed to call someone your spouse carries more weight than calling them your civil union partner. Currently, some states such as New Jersey and California allow civil unions or domestic partnerships for same-sex couples, which grant some of the same rights as marriage.
