With profound sorrow and heavy hearts, we mourn the passing of our longtime colleague and friend Michael S. Oberman.

Michael spent his entire professional career, over 46 years, as a litigator at Kramer Levin. Following a clerkship under U.S. District Judge Milton Pollack, Michael joined the firm in September 1973 and was elected a partner in January 1980.

Michael worked on all manner of commercial litigation in both the trial and appellate courts, and headed our Alternative Dispute Resolution practice. More recently, he often served as an arbitrator. He was also active in efforts for court reform and served as a member of New York Chief Judge Judith Kaye's Commercial Courts Task Force, which created the Commercial Division of the New York Supreme Court.

Michael had a brilliant legal mind and a deep intellectual curiosity around the law. He was a gifted writer and a valued partner, often sought after by his colleagues for his wise counsel.

We extend our heartfelt sympathies and condolences to Michael’s wife, Sharon; daughter, Abby and her husband, Bryan; his grandsons and their extended family.
