  • Kramer Levin’s Condemnation team helps property owners maximize awards in condemnation proceedings, assists developers when condemnation is a part of their project’s development process, advises lessees on their rights and handles property sales to the government in lieu of condemnation.

The Condemnation team comprises real estate, land use, environmental and tax lawyers, as well as transactional lawyers and litigators, to ensure the ready knowledge and necessary experience to achieve the best outcome for our clients, quickly and cost-effectively.

Our Condemnation practice is led by Jim Greilsheimer, a pre-eminent condemnation lawyer who served as chief of the condemnation unit for the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York and as the litigating assistant corporation counsel and the first assistant corporation counsel of New York City. In earlier years, he served as condemnation counsel for many government agencies, including the New York City School Construction Authority, the Empire State Development Authority, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Amtrak, the New York Convention Center and the New York City Housing Authority, as well as several utility companies with the power to condemn.

We have achieved winning results for a broad range of clients, including the developer of Brooklyn’s MetroTech site, commercial property owners on lower Broadway in connection with the MTA’s construction of the Fulton Street Transit Center next to Ground Zero, property owners along the waterfront in Williamsburg and the owners of a 30-acre site in Nassau County.
