Marcus Schmidbauer has joined Kramer Levin as a Tax partner in the Paris office. Accompanying him are associates Joséphine Tonnerre and Stanislas Kulaga. Their arrival strengthens the firm’s M&A and private equity practices.

With a dozen years of experience, Mr. Schmidbauer focuses his practice on transactional taxation. He advises private clients and managers on profit-sharing instruments, asset structuring and estate planning on an international scale, and on tax aspects relating to financing, capital markets and real estate. Leveraging his Franco-German background, Mr. Schmidbauer provides tax advice to international groups in the context of their activities in France and abroad.

“The firm is enthusiastic about the capabilities that Marcus brings to our M&A and private equity practices, particularly those involving Franco-German and cross-border considerations,” said Renaud Dubois, co-managing partner of the Paris office. “More broadly, his bicultural outlook enriches our perspectives and strengthens our ability to navigate the complexity of international transactions.”

Mr. Schmidbauer’s practice primarily revolves around the technology, defense, life sciences and automotive sectors. He offers dedicated support to high-growth companies and startups as well as private equity and venture capital funds.

His experience will contribute to the firm’s tax practice, particularly with regard to tax structuring and modeling, as well as bolster its existing European private equity practice. His arrival will also reinforce the firm’s ability to provide valuable support for growing companies during their international development and strengthen its offerings for high-potential German-speaking markets.

Mr. Schmidbauer said, “I am looking forward to contributing to the expansion of the firm’s transactional practice. The firm’s reputation is already solid in numerous areas, and I’m hoping to help reinforce Kramer Levin’s position as the partner of choice for many French and non-French clients with multijurisdictional interests or leading projects on an international scale.”

A graduate of ESSEC (Grande École program/MBA), Mr. Schmidbauer obtained a Master 2 in business law and taxation from the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne.

Ms. Tonnerre has been a member of the Paris bar since June 2021 and focuses on private equity, M&A and financing transactions. She works alongside buyers, investors, sellers and managers to provide advice on the tax aspects of business deals. Mr. Kulaga focuses on transactional tax cases.
