Diversity & Inclusion Programs — Why they may miss their objectives. In her Feb. 6 presentation, Professor Cheryl L. Wade, from St. John’s Law School, shared her latest research on diversity and inclusion programs and how they must not overlook the continuing problems of implicit bias and discrimination.  

Diversity in Admissions. Angela Onwuachi-Willig, dean of Boston University Law School, led a discussion titled “Lessons from Students for Fair Admissions, Inc. v. President and Fellows of Harvard College.” Her Jan. 14 discussion explored the facts of the case filed against Harvard challenging its use of race in admissions, and provided takeaways from the recent ruling in the Harvard’s favor by the Massachusetts federal district court.

Voting in 2020. At a lunch on Sept. 5, 2019, Myrna Perez, director of the Brennan Center’s Voting Rights and Elections Program, discussed the state of voting ahead of the 2020 elections. Myrna is the author of nationally recognized reports for the Brennan Center on voting rights issues, including “Purges: A Growing Threat to the Right to Vote” (2018) and “Noncitizen Voting: The Missing Millions (2017). She has testified before Congress and state legislatures on a range of voting rights issues. Currently, Myrna is a lecturer in law at Columbia Law School, where she earned her law degree and served as Lowenstein Public Interest Fellow.
