The Women’s Initiative of Kramer Levin is committed to creating and maintaining an environment where women can flourish and become leaders in the legal community, both inside and outside the firm. Below are some of the recent initiatives and programs led by this group.

Relaunch of the Firm’s Women’s Circles. Kramer Levin launched women’s circles in 2017. With the recent need to work in a remote environment, the circles reconstituted to reinforce the support provided to participating members. Discussions range from tips for juggling competing work obligations and navigating career paths to business development suggestions.

Mindfulness and Stress. The firm hosted Myra McCormack on July 22 to share practical tips for managing stress.  Myra shared techniques to manage stress in the moment and in the long term. She also shared ways to tune out negativity and to find yourself — even in the midst of chaos. The event concluded with a brief guided meditation.

Myra manages a large group of patent attorneys for Johnson & Johnson and oversees the Consumer Health group’s patent portfolio, managing the patent aspects of business in-licensing, litigation support and business acquisitions. She has also taught meditation classes for the past 10 years, mostly to lawyers and professionals, after coming to meditation as a way to manage stress in her career.

Healing Support. Cecilia B. Loving, deputy commissioner and chief diversity and inclusion officer at the Fire Department of New York City, led a discussion on July 27 about the importance of supporting others to promote racial inclusion. Sponsored by the Women’s Initiative Committee, Cecilia offered insights from her own experiences at the event, which was titled “Some Ways to Support Racial Healing.”

In her role with the Fire Department, Cecilia oversees numerous initiatives including the Fire Commissioner’s Committee on Diversity and Inclusion, Bravest Women Talks and Courageous Conversations on Racial Inclusion. A Kramer Levin alumna, Cecilia is the author of nine books, including God is a Brown Girl Too and Unbroken Circles: Holding Space, Healing Harm and Transcending Edges.
